- Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Candidates who clear the first stage are eligible to appear for the second stage CBT, which consists of two parts: Part-A and Part-B. Part-A is for 90 minutes and includes 100 questions on Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and Basic Science and Engineering. Part-B is a qualifying test of 60 minutes with 75 questions from various trade syllabi as prescribed by the Directorate General of Training (DGT). There is negative marking in both parts. Only the marks scored in Part-A are considered for shortlisting for further stages, provided the candidate secures qualifying marks in Part-B.
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): This test is conducted only for candidates applying for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot. Candidates are shortlisted for CBAT based on their performance in Part-A of CBT-2 (8 times the number of ALP vacancies for each community). It is mandatory to clear each test battery/section of CBAT separately with a minimum T-score of 42 marks. There is no negative marking in CBAT. Candidates must also produce their Vision Certificate in the prescribed format during CBAT.
- Document Verification (DV): Candidates who qualify in the CBAT (for ALP) and perform well in CBT-2 (Part-A) are called for Document Verification. They need to produce all original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies for verification.
- Medical Examination (ME): Shortlisted candidates who clear the Document Verification must undergo a medical examination conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure they meet the prescribed medical standards for the post, with A-1 being the standard for ALP.
